Certificate in Spanish for Tourism

Tourism continues to be one of the largest industries in the world. This exciting new programme is unique in bringing together the study of tourism and the Spanish language. The Spanish for Tourism courses aim to produce independent, confident and effective linguists with the language skills required to make a positive and effective contribution to international economic activity. The participant will develop management and tourism skills that are essential to get ahead in the industry.

These programmes are designed to ultimately prepare candidates to sit international examinations for the attainment of the international qualifications of:

  • Basic Certificate Spanish for Tourism (Europe) at B2 level; and,
  • Advanced Certificate Spanish for Tourism (Europe) at C1 level.

The Caribbean School of Languages is an official examination centre for internationally recognised qualifications in Spanish for Tourism. 

Overview of the Programme

The Certificate in Spanish for Tourism prepares students for a high level of operational responsibilities in all areas of International Tourism, where their competence in the foreign language will be an asset to any company. Some benefits arising from these qualifications are:

The Spanish for Tourism courses cover everything the professional tourism provider needs in the discharge of their duties, including practitioner to client communication, interaction among professionals, research and much more in the foreign language as well as cultural awareness and many other aspects of specialised communication.

  • Understand how the specific features of Tourism and Hospitality Management work together to inform strategy and operations within a global context
  • Discuss and apply coherent and detailed knowledge of the Tourism and Hospitality industries
  • Debate current professional opinion and research about trends in Tourism and Hospitality Management and changes that may affect its development in the near or mid-term future

Participants do not require any prior knowledge of Spanish or tourism to start. Our programme prepares participants to exceed expectations in the industry not only in this hemisphere, but also in the international arena.

Our Specialised Teaching Staff

The CSL staff in charge of the delivery and assesment of these courses are specialists with ample experience in the field. They are supported by consultants, tutors, qualified professional practitioners and assistants who are actively engaged in research and/or professional practice. This knowledge base is integrated into the teaching of this course in order to ensure the best instruction for our candidates to achieve their goals.  Please note that teaching staff can change.

Structure of the Programme

The CSL offers the following two (2) programmes in Spanish for Tourism.  

  • Basic Certificate in Spanish for Tourism (B2 level) one (1) year long which is divided into three semesters.
  • Advanced Certificate in Spanish for Tourism (C1 level)one (1) year long which is divided into three semesters.

  • Morning option: Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 12:30pm
  • Evening option: Monday to Friday from 5:00pm to 08:00pm

IT requirements

  • For computers using Windows (minimum system requirement: Windows 10)
  • For computers using Mac (minimum system requirement: OSX 10)
  • For iPad tablets (iOS) (minimum system requirement: iOS 9)
  • For Android tablets (minimum system requirement: Android 5)
  • The use of headphones with working speakers and a microphone is advised.

Optional courses

Due to the nature of the hospitality and tourism industry worldwide, participants are encouraged and given the option to take advantage of the variety of foreign language courses on offer at the CSL.  These include but are not limited to courses in:

  • French for International Communication
  • Preparation courses for the DELF and DALF for international certification
  • German for International Communication
  • Portuguese for International Communication
  • DELE preparation courses for international certification

Admission Requirements

  • High School diploma and transcript with a minimum GPA of 2.00 OR
  • Minimum of four (4) CSEC (CXC)/GCE O’Level subjects, inclusive of English A and mathematics, Grades 1,2,3* or A,B,C.

    *Grade 3 accepted if attained in June 1998 or beyond
