This course is the first step to expand the knowledge and skills acquired by participants in their preparation for the external examinations leading to the award of the Basic Certificate in Business Spanish (B2). It aims to get participants acquainted with the structure, requirements and level of external examinations leading to the award of the Advanced Certificate in Business Spanish (C1). It fosters in the learner a deeper understanding and command of topics on economics and business in Spain and Latin America. It also develops the linguistic competencies necessary to function at a high level of specialisation in the language and world of business. Interactive lectures, seminars and group discussions are designed to improve the student’s level of professionalism, knowledge and skills needed for success in this endeavour.
Summative assessment is divided into coursework and examinations. Coursework is weighted at forty per cent (40%) of the total grade and comprises six (6) research projects, the findings of which will be presented to the class in the foreign language and a synopsis submitted and shared with the class, as well as eight (8) assignments to be submitted to the lecturer. The tutor will provide feedback for all coursework. The examination is weighted at sixty per cent (60%) and comprises one Examination consisting of four (4) parts:
- Part 1. Reading comprehension.
- Part 2. Programme-specific knowledge test.
- Part 3. Specialised writing.
- Part 4. Oral test.
Formative tasks will include talks, debates, seminars and other exercises of a technical and highly specialised nature.
