Course Description

The CSL English for the Workplace courses can help you to prepare for the job market. If English is your second language, the English for the Workplace programme will increase your employment opportunities and will develop your skills in professional writing, professional speaking, intercultural communication, and self-editing.

You will build your awareness of pronunciation and its role in communication to help you refine how you speak and how people understand your speech. This English for the Workplace programme is a series of short courses for young professionals who want to stand out in the modern workplace and it is delivered in Virtual Groups. The course focuses on developing your language and professional skills to help you further your career. A key part of the course is critical thinking and soft skills, and it includes training for the challenging situations people face in an international business environment. 


Being able to use English effectively will improve your communication skills and your overall performance at work. From being more productive to boosting your chances of promotion or landing that dream job, this course could be vital to your future success. We will arm you with the skills required to communicate effectively and confidently in the world’s main language for business. Topics studied in this course cover areas such as Marketing, Sales, Finance, Management, HR, and much more.

Participants do not require any prior knowledge of English to start. All the skills and knowledge will be acquired from the basic level through the advanced level at international standards. 

Study Options

  • 4 weeks per level 
  • 23 contact hours per week

  • Total duration for levels 1 to 9: one (1) academic year divided into three (3) terms: ENGW 1-2-3, ENGW 4-5-6, ENGW 7-8-9
  • 6 weeks per level – 60 contact hours per level 
  • 5 guided independent study hours per week 
  • Monday to Friday from 09:00am to 10:30am OR  07:30pm to 09:00pm
  • Total duration for levels 1 to 9: approx. one and a half (1 1/2) years

This Intensive English course is for highly motivated individuals looking to maximise and accelerate their learning in the shortest time possible. Some of the participants of this course may have deadlines by which they should develop a certain command of the language due to travel, academic or work-related commitments.

  • 30 contact hours per Part (each level is two Parts) 
  • 30 guided independent study hours per level 
  • Mondays and Wednesdays OR Tuesday and Thursday from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm OR Saturdays from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm
  • Total duration for levels 1 to 9 (18 Parts): approx. two years and three months 

This programme focuses on helping you to learn English easily and effectively with few hours and days of classes per week. These classes will allow you to advance in your learning without rushing, but making the most of each session. This option is great for anyone who has a busy schedule but wants to keep studying. Maybe you have a demanding job, or you have children to take care of. If so, then just two classes a week is ideal.

These private classes have been carefully designed for students who want to learn a language at their own pace, based on their abilities. They are looking to maximize the time spent with the professor to get the most out of each class, with the added bonus of choosing the schedule of their choice.

What does a learner need to do?

  1. Attend regular classes either in-person or online.

  2. Allow time for project work and study each week.

  3. Talk to your trainer for support and guidance if you need more support.

  4. Bring a positive attitude to class and any work experience to make sure you get the most from the opportunity.

Upon successful completion of the English for the Workplace programme, levels 1 to 6, the participant will:

  • have better English pronunciation and clarity of speech;
  • have improved their English accent;
  • know how to make an impact and deliver their message effectively;
  • know how to deliver oral presentations;
  • know how to participate effectively in meetings and interviews;
  • have improved their telephone communication skills;
  • have improved their workplace conversational skills;
  • have improved their business writing skills;
  • have learned about Trinidad and Tobago’s workplace culture and language;
  • have learned about non verbal communication;
  • have improved their intercultural communication skills;
  • have improved their soft skills, e.g. giving and receiving feedback, persuading, etc. 
  • have participated in meetings and negotiations; 
  • have learned about applying for work – interviewing and preparing CV’s, cover letters; 
  • have given presentations and pitched ideas and projects; 
  • have improved their English for online communication, e.g. working remotely, social media, etc. 
  • have improved their writing for business skills, e.g. emails, reports, evaluations and briefs; 
  • have learned vocabulary for business; 
  • have improved their critical thinking; 
  • have functional grammar, e.g. hedging, emphasizing, paraphrasing, etc.  
  • have experienced context-based learning, based on real world scenarios and contexts; 
  • have done project work with experienced professionals.

  • All our courses cover the contents of the Common European Framework of Reference of Languages (CEFR) of the Council of Europe.
  • The communicative approach is used in all language for international communication courses.

Participants will develop the four language skills, i.e. listening, reading, writing and speaking simultaneously while learning grammatical structures and vocabulary related to the level as well as an appreciation of the culture of the countries where the language is spoken.

Some of the evaluation components include group projects, assignments, oral presentations and tests in the four language skills: Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing.

At the end of each level, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion awarded by the CSL. In order to obtain a Pass, students must obtain at least 60% of the overall grade. 

International certification is obtained by way of external examinations.

  • Official high school, college, university diploma or degree, or college/university attendance certificate;
  • A recent passport sized photo of the applicant (digital format);
  • A copy of the applicant’s driver’s permit, national ID card or passport;
  • Proper immigration status (for non local students) living in Trinidad and Tobago;
  • Completed registration form. 

Prerequisite Courses

  • For admission of our levels 2 – 9, along with the requirements above, successful completion of the previous level in the CSL programme, the IELTS or TOEFL certificate at the corresponding level or having been placed at the specific level via a CSL placement test.
