Post-Advanced Spanish Courses – Phase II

Course Description

The series of courses in Spanish for International Communication is designed in a unique format that will help participants achieve maximum results in the least amount of time. These are offered at four different levels from Superior I to Superior IV. Participants who wish obtain the international certification Diploma in Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE) will benefit from these courses. 

The Superior I is for students who have succesfully completed our level 9, General Proficiency, or who have been placed at this level. 

Study Options

  • 195 contact hours per term 
  • 195 guided independent study hours per term
  • Includes DELE preparation courses at C1 and C2
  • Total duration for levels 1 to 9: one (1) academic year divided into three (3) terms: PAS 1-2, PAS 3, PAS 4

Intended for participants who wish to embark on a career in professional translation  but do not have the required level of proficiency in the foreign language or for those looking for an immersion programme without the hassle and expense of travelling to a Spanish speaking country.

This Intensive Spanish course is for highly motivated individuals looking to maximise and accelerate their learning in the shortest time possible. Some of the participants of this course may have deadlines by which they should develop a certain command of the language due to travel, academic or work-related commitments. Some other participants may simply want to embark in a longer journey with the aim to obtain international and/or professional qualifications.

These private classes have been carefully designed for students who want to learn a language at their own pace, based on their abilities. They are looking to maximize the time spent with the professor to get the most out of each class, with the added bonus of choosing the schedule of their choice.

Programme Details

  • The use of headphones with working speakers and a microphone is advised.

Upon successful completion of the Spanish General Proficiency programme, Post-Advanced Levels, the participants will be able to:

  • Easily understand basically everything that they listen to or read; to reconstruct the information and the arguments from various sources, whether orally or in writing; and to present a summarised version coherently;
  • Understand any type of spoken language, whether in live conversations or re-broadcasted speech, even when they are delivered at a speed used by native speakers, while being able to understand specialised presentations and conferences, even when they contain a high volume of colloquialisms, regionalisms or little habitual terminology;
  • Easily read all forms of written language, including abstract text, structurally and linguistically complex, such as specialised articles and literary work;
  • Interact effortlessly in any conversation or debate, knowing slangs, set phrases and colloquial expressions very well, expressing themselves fluently and communicating subtle nuances of meaning accurately;
  • Present descriptions or arguments clearly and fluently, with a style that is appropriate to the context, and with a logic and efficient structure that helps the listener to notice the important ideas and to remember them;
  • Present complex topics confidently and in an eloquent manner to an audience that is unfamiliar with the topic, structuring and adapting their speech with flexibility in order to satisfy the needs of the listeners;
  • Write complex text with clarity and fluency, and in an appropriate and efficient style, and a logical structure that helps the reader to find the meaningful ideas;
  • Creatively write attractive stories and descriptions of experiences with clarity and fluency, and in a style appropriate to the chosen literary genre;
  • Write complex reports, text or articles with clarity and fluency that present a critical argument or appreciation of literary work and research projects;
  • Apply communicative strategies in a manner that is hardly noticeable, sorting out difficulties with such discretion that the interlocutor could barely realise the fact.

  • All our courses covers the contents of the Common European Framework of Reference of Languages (CEFR) of the Council of Europe.
  • The communicative approach is applied in all language for international communication courses.

Participants will develop the four language skills, i.e. listening, reading, writing and speaking simultaneously while learning grammatical structures and vocabulary related to the level as well as an appreciation of the culture of the countries where the language is spoken.

Some of the evaluation components include group projects, assignments, oral presentations and tests in the four language skills: Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing.

At the end of each level, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion awarded by the CSL. In order to obtain a Pass, students must obtain at least 60% of the overall grade. 

International certification is obtained by way of external examinations.

  • High School diploma and transcript with a minimum GPA of 2.00 OR
  • Passes in any two-2-unit CAPE or GCE A-level subjects, OR
  • Minimum of four (4) CSEC (CXC)/GCE O’Level subjects, inclusive of English A and mathematics, Grades 1,2,3* or A,B,C.

    *Grade 3 accepted if attained in June 1998 or beyond

Prerequisite Courses

  • Successful completion of CSL’s Level 9 or a DELE Diploma at B2 not more than one year old; OR
  • Having been placed at this level via a CSL placement test.

DELE Exams are the Best Official and International Proof of Your Spanish Knowledge

The DELE Spanish Diplomas are official qualifications certifying the degree of competence and mastery of Spanish, granted by Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training of Spain and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain.

The DELE examinations have been designed following the guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) of the Council of Europe.

DELE Exam Preparation
  • Our DELE preparation courses are designed following the exam structure and therefore contain the same sections. Throughout the different activities, the participant will be able to study several samples of the exam in order to get used to the structure.

  • DELE stands for Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera (Diplomas of Spanish as a Foreign Language). It’s a worldwide recognised certificate of Spanish proficiency.
