In terms of language acquisition, this course will enable students with a theoretical background as they acquire the high level skills necessary to practise as professional translators. Students will be underpinned by an understanding of translation theories and debates. The programme offers the opportunity to acquire a certification that demonstrates the ability to work in languages, which will also assist those who want to use their written skills in international organisations worldwide.

Following successful completion of the programme, students will be awarded the Advanced Certificate in Translation by the Caribbean School of Languages. Due to the simillarities in content and level, the holders of the said certificate may be eligible sit external examinations leading to the Certificate in Translation (BA level) of Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL – UK).

The CIOL Qualifications Level 6 Certificate in Translation (CertTrans) is aligned to the UK Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) at Level 6 and shares equivalencies to degrees and other UK qualifications at this level. The qualification is also a step towards the CIOL Qualifications Level 7 Diploma in Translation (DipTrans) programme which is at Masters level and the widely recognised “gold standard” for professional translators worldwide.
