Spanish Courses (levels 1-9) Phase I

Course Description

The series of courses in Spanish for International Communication is designed in a unique format that will help participants achieve maximum results in the least amount of time. These are offered at nine different levels from beginner to advanced. Participants who wish obtain the international certification Diploma in Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE) will benefit from these courses. 

Participants do not require any prior knowledge of Spanish to start. All the skills (Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing) and knowledge of the world and general history, geography, culture, civilization, literature, art, politics, language and communication awareness of the Spanish-speaking world and other assorted countries will be acquired from the basic level through the advanced level at international standards.

  • Total duration for levels 1 to 9: one (1) academic year divided into three (3) terms: GPS 1-2-3, GPS 4-5-6, GPS 7-8-9

Intended for participants who wish to embark on a career in professional translation  but do not have the required level of proficiency in the foreign language or for those looking for an immersion programme without the hassle and expense of travelling to a Spanish speaking country.

This Intensive Spanish course is for highly motivated individuals looking to maximise and accelerate their learning in the shortest time possible. Some of the participants of this course may have deadlines by which they should develop a certain command of the language due to travel, academic or work-related commitments. Some other participants may simply want to embark in a longer journey with the aim to obtain international and/or professional qualifications.

These private classes have been carefully designed for students who want to learn a language at their own pace, based on their abilities. They are looking to maximize the time spent with the professor to get the most out of each class, with the added bonus of choosing the schedule of their choice.

  • The use of headphones with working speakers and a microphone is advised.

Upon successful completion of the Spanish General Proficiency programme, levels 1 to 9, the participant will be able to:

  • Speak fluently, accurately and efficiently about a wide range of general, academic and professional topics and hobbies, clearly stating the relationship among ideas;
  • Communicate spontaneously using the level of formality appropriate to the relevant situation;
  • Understand the main ideas of conferences, talks and reports, and other forms of academic and professional presentations that are linguistically complex;
  • Write clear and detailed descriptions of facts and real or imaginary experiences in clear and well-structured text, stating the relationship among ideas and respecting the established standards of the chosen genre;
  • Write the story of a film, a book or a play;
  • Understand any type of audio, whether face-to-face conversations or re-broadcasted speech on habitual topics or others, related to the personal, social, academic or professional life;
  • Have the linguistic capacity to negotiate the resolution of conflict, such as complaints, asking for financial liability for damages, etc. using persuasive language;
  • Function well in most transactions that may arise while travelling, organising the trip or accommodation, or dealing with the competent authorities for travelling abroad;
  • Take the initiative in an interview and express ideas, obtaining help from the interviewer where necessary.

  • All our courses covers the contents of the Common European Framework of Reference of Languages (CEFR) of the Council of Europe.
  • The communicative approach is applied in all language for international communication courses.

Participants will develop the four language skills, i.e. listening, reading, writing and speaking simultaneously while learning grammatical structures and vocabulary related to the level as well as an appreciation of the culture of the countries where the language is spoken.

Some of the evaluation components include group projects, assignments, oral presentations and tests in the four language skills: Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing.

At the end of each level, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion awarded by the CSL. In order to obtain a Pass, students must obtain at least 60% of the overall grade. 

International certification is obtained by way of external examinations.

  • High School diploma and transcript with a minimum GPA of 2.00 OR
  • Passes in any two-2-unit CAPE or GCE A-level subjects, OR
  • Minimum of four (4) CSEC (CXC)/GCE O’Level subjects, inclusive of English A and mathematics, Grades 1,2,3* or A,B,C.

    *Grade 3 accepted if attained in June 1998 or beyond

Prerequisite Courses

  • For admission of our levels 2 – 9, along with the requirements above, successful completion of the previous level in the CSL programme, the DELE diploma at the corresponding level or having been placed at the specific level via a CSL placement test.

The DELE Spanish Diplomas are official qualifications certifying the degree of competence and mastery of Spanish, granted by Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training of Spain and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain.

DELE Exam Preparation
  • Our DELE preparation courses are designed following the exam structure and therefore contain the same sections. Throughout the different activities, the participant will be able to study several samples of the exam in order to get used to the structure.
